Frenzy by Francesca Lia Block - book review

Oh, good I wasn't the only one who noticed how Francesca fell short on this one. I've looked at some of the major reviews and see they back me up.

Honest to goodness she is one of my all time favorites when it comes to prose. And this novel didn't seem to have quite the beauty, as so many of her other stories. She is the goddess of prose as far as I'm concerned. She is the queen of dysfunction. Which she plays that card quite well. Even in this book. Nobody seems to get along at home.

This is a story about a girl who just doesn't feel quite like anyone else in her family. Olivia is going red. All over her body, a fine hair is appearing..everywhere, even on her toes. If that's not enough she's got those average teen struggles with her parents and life.

Also, her police-chief father is trying to solve the killings happening in the forest. This is the place where Olivia see's the mysterious woman. What could it mean?

I dunno. I was just a bit put off at the beginning. It starts with her getting her period. Oh, the horror...and soon we know she's a werewolf before she does.

This is Block's take on the modern tale. A theme many are taking, as of late. If its not vampires making out or trying to get into law school, its werewolves getting on the endangered species list. We do love the supernatural. Boys that are unattainable, and beasts we'd love to run with. But you'll find in this story, the plot muddled. Characters not quite that developed and unfortunately, it doesn't live up to the title.
